Port of Seattle Senior Fire Protection Engineer in Seattle, Washington
Some of what you'll be doing:
As a Senior Fire Protection Engineer, you will be responsible for airport fire and life safety systems. You will also be coordinating staff to meet facility and aviation needs, aligning fire protection systems with major projects, and overseeing high-level planning.
You will interpret, organize, execute and coordinate internal infrastructure design assignments by providing oversight and technical expertise on design of specialized systems .
You will perform appropriate risk analysis and develop contingency plans for unexpected problems that can have a significant impact on assigned projects.
You will review, examine, interpret, evaluate, approve fire protection and life safety systems, building plans, drawings, and calculations to ensure conformance with the Port of Seattle's Fire and Life Safety Code(s), related Building Code and National Standard requirements.
You will conduct field inspections as necessary; investigate field problems affecting property owners, contractors and maintenance operations; generate clear and concise reports of findings and provide resolution.
You will partner with AV/Maintenance and contractors on the installation, troubleshooting, replacement and operation of infrastructure systems and equipment.
You will provide technical expertise and oversight on asset/infrastructure, equipment, and specialized systems with regards to developing Airport Standards as well as coordination for renewal and replacement with the Airport Master Plan.
You will manage and oversee the design consultant selection process, contracts, and deliverables.
You will review capital or expense project commissioning and acceptance testing criteria and reports of systems within fire protection engineering.
You will present to Senior Managers, Investment Committee, and Commission on projects requiring system of expertise. You will also oversee the development and coordination of required documents and presentations at each stage of approval and subsequent status reports.
You will research, develop, and provide evaluations of new techniques, developments and/or improved processes affecting specialized systems.
Who you are:
Experienced – You have six (6) years of experience in fire protection/infrastructure systems including design, modeling, construction, testing, commissioning and/or activation.
Licensed – You have a Professional Engineers License in the State of Washington.
Desired – We hope you have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and/or a National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Certified Fire Protection Specialist.

You are also an expert of federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and related regulations, guidelines and procedures as they relate to construction projects and life safety systems.
Effective Communicator – You possess both strong written and verbal skills including the ability to negotiate and present to varying audiences. Your interpersonal communication skills allow you work with a diverse group of sponsors and stakeholders.
Innovative and Agile – You are someone who brings creative solutions to issues and can adapt quickly to meet changing demands. You have the acumen to understand the business need in your decision making.
What else you need to know:
Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.
Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion. You may work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and/or in confined spaces.
Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
Safety Requirements – You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
Security Requirements – As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance. You will also be required to obtain a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Customs Seal within 30 days of hire.
